Port information & tips for Eidsdal

Eidsdal is a picturesque gem on the Norddalsfjord and an essential stop along Norway's scenic panoramic roads. This peaceful village impresses with its authentic fjord atmosphere and a stunning backdrop of steep mountains and deep blue water. Absolute highlights in the immediate area include the spectacular Gudbrandsjuvet gorge with its modern viewing platform and the famous Eagle Road Ørnevegen, which offers a magnificent view of the Geirangerfjord with its eleven hairpin bends. Cruise ships use the central Eidsdal Kai, located directly in the small village center. Thanks to this prime location, guests can reach charming local cafes and the region's pristine nature within a few minutes' walk, while also enjoying an ideal starting point for exploring the famous Golden Route.

Eidsdal, a picturesque village in the heart of the Norwegian fjord landscape, is a charming destination for smaller cruise ships and is known as the gateway to the Geirangerfjord. The port features a ferry terminal that is also used by cruise passengers, and the entire surrounding area can be explored on foot.

Car & Ferry

Eidsdal is a central point on the famous RV63 scenic route, which leads you through breathtaking nature and provides connections to the Geirangerfjord and the Trollstigen. Arriving by car includes the scenic ferry crossing between Eidsdal and Linge, which takes about 13 minutes and operates every 30 minutes during the day. Parking is available directly at the ferry pier in Eidsdal, which is well-suited for the short wait for the ferry.

Airplane

The nearest major airport is Ålesund Airport, Vigra (AES), located approximately 169 to 187 kilometers from Eidsdal. From there, bus connections exist to Ålesund and onwards to Eidsdal, requiring a travel time of about 3 hours 19 minutes including transfers. A direct bus connection from the center of Ålesund to Eidsdal takes approximately 2 hours and 2 minutes.

Transfer & Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the distance and the necessary transfer times, arriving in a city like Ålesund the day before embarkation is recommended to start your cruise adventure in a relaxed manner. From Ålesund Airport (AES), you can use private taxi or chauffeur services in addition to public bus lines to bring you comfortably to Eidsdal. An overnight stay in Ålesund also allows you to explore the coastal city before starting your journey into the fjord region.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and consider that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
