Port information & tips for Arendal
Arendal is the picturesque pearl on the Norwegian south coast and impresses as the maritime gateway to the idyllic archipelago. The charming town enchants with its relaxed atmosphere, historic wooden houses, and the lively harbor basin Pollen, which is considered the vibrant heart of the region. Cultural highlights include the picturesque Tyholmen district with its magnificent 18th-century buildings and the striking Trinity Church, which towers majestically over the city. Cruise ships dock at the centrally located Batterikaien, allowing guests to reach the pedestrian zone as well as the inviting cafes and shops of the city center directly within a few minutes' walk thanks to the first-class location.
Arendal welcomes cruise guests directly in the heart of the city, as ships usually dock centrally at Batterikaien or Hotelkaien. This allows for an extremely convenient exploration on foot, as the most important sights, shops, and restaurants are just a short walk from the pier.
Airplane
For guests from the DACH region, traveling by plane to the nearest major airport, Kristiansand Airport Kjevik (KRS), is recommended. This is located about 66 kilometers from Arendal. The journey from the airport to the cruise port takes around one hour by car or taxi. In addition, there are regular bus connections from Kristiansand Airport to Arendal bus station, with a travel time of approximately 49 minutes to 1 hour 56 minutes, including transfers.
Car
Arendal is well connected to the Norwegian road network thanks to the E18 European route. The E18 passes directly by Arendal and connects the city with Kristiansand in the southwest and the Oslo/Drammen area in the northeast. Parking for private vehicles is available directly at the pier for cruise passengers. Alternatively, there are other parking spaces in Arendal city center, from which you can easily reach the city center and the harbor via a free elevator.
Train
Arendal station is the terminus of the Arendalsbanen and is served by Go-Ahead Norge. The station is conveniently located close to the center, only about a five-minute walk from the city center and thus also from the cruise terminal. There are train connections from Oslo to Arendal (with a change in Nelaug); the travel time for this is about 3 hours and 45 minutes. Arendal can also be reached by train from Kristiansand (also via Nelaug).
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan enough time for your journey to the port accordingly and bear in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually about one hour before the scheduled departure.
The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
