San Diego is the shining jewel of Southern California and welcomes cruisers with a perfect blend of relaxed lifestyle and urban glamour. Its location on the glittering Pacific offers a maritime flair and is stylishly complemented by the city's impressive skyline. Situated directly on the lively Embarcadero waterfront promenade, world-class attractions such as the legendary USS Midway Museum, the Maritime Museum of San Diego with the historic Star of India, and the charming Seaport Village are within immediate reach. Cruise ships dock at the central B Street Cruise Ship Terminal or the neighboring Broadway Pier, from where travelers can easily reach the vibrant city center and the historic Gaslamp Quarter in just a few minutes on foot.
The Port of San Diego impresses with its central location directly on the Embarcadero and, thanks to its immediate proximity to the airport and train station, is one of the most easily accessible cruise ports in the USA. The two terminals at B Street Pier and Broadway Pier are located next to each other and are perfectly integrated into the urban infrastructure of the city center.
Airplane
San Diego International Airport (SAN) is located only three to five kilometers north of the terminals and is served with connections at major US hubs or via London from the DACH region. The journey to the port takes only about 10 to 15 minutes by taxi or a rideshare service thanks to the short distance and leads picturesquely along the coast directly to the berths. Additionally, bus line 992 connects the airport directly with the cruise terminal at regular intervals.
Train & Transfer
The historic Santa Fe Depot is the central rail hub and is located just two blocks east of the docking points. From here, you can reach your ship after an approximately ten-minute walk or a very short taxi ride; furthermore, the station offers excellent connections with the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner for guests who wish to combine their cruise with a stay in Los Angeles or Santa Barbara. The connection to the Interstate 5 highway also allows for easy accessibility for travelers with a rental car, with secure parking garages such as the BRIC North Garage available directly opposite the piers.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the time difference and the long flight time from Europe, an arrival at least one day before embarkation is recommended to start your vacation relaxed. Directly opposite the terminals are first-class hotels such as the InterContinental or the Wyndham San Diego Bayside, which offer an unobstructed view of the incoming ships and, thanks to their location, are ideal starting points for explorations of the adjacent Gaslamp Quarter or the USS Midway Museum. Many of these hotels also provide special packages for cruise guests that include transfers or parking.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the journey: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always follow the current announcements and the notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
