Rockland is the maritime heart of the Maine coast and is considered the charming lobster capital of the world. Airplane
For international guests from the DACH region, arrival via larger airports is recommended. The Knox County Regional Airport (RKD) in Owls Head is located only about 6 kilometers south of Rockland and mainly offers flights to and from Boston (BOS) with Cape Air. From there, you can reach the port comfortably in about 7 to 15 minutes by taxi or ride-sharing service. Another option is the Portland International Jetport (PWM), around 130 kilometers away, with a travel time of about 1.5 hours. The Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) is about 3.5 to 4 hours away, but offers the most direct connections from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
Auto
Rockland is easily accessible via the road network. Coming from the south, take I-95 North, switch to I-295 North after Portland, and then follow Exit 28 onto US Route 1 North. Please note that US Route 1 can be very busy in the summer. Parking is available at the Maine State Ferry Terminal (limited spaces, credit card payment recommended). Additionally, there are municipal parking lots such as Harbor Park or the Thorndike Lot. For long-term parkers, designated areas at MacDougal Park, Harbor Park, or Snow Marine Park are available. Parking fees from mid-May to mid-October are approximately 2 US dollars per hour in some areas, while two hours of free parking is possible outside of this season.
Transfer & Pre-Cruise Hotel
Given the long flight from the DACH region, an overnight stay before the cruise in Rockland or a nearby town like Camden is highly recommended to start your vacation relaxed. Buses from Concord Coach Lines run from Portland International Jetport (PWM) and Boston (BOS), and private shuttle services like Sterling Elite Shuttle offer convenient transfers directly to the port or your hotel in Rockland. Local taxi services such as Schooner Bay Taxi are also available.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation.
