Provincetown in Massachusetts is a charming destination at the end of Cape Cod and can be reached by cruise guests from the DACH region in various ways. Cruise ships usually dock at the centrally located MacMillan Pier in the heart of the city, which is also an important ferry port.
Airplane
The nearest international airport for travelers from Europe is Boston Logan International Airport (BOS). From there, a connecting flight with Cape Air to Provincetown Municipal Airport (PVC) is recommended, which takes only about 20 to 25 minutes and operates year-round. The small PVC airport is located only about four kilometers from Provincetown city center, from where you can easily take a taxi to MacMillan Pier.
Ferry from Boston
A particularly attractive and traffic-independent arrival is made possible by the fast ferry connection from Boston to Provincetown. Several providers, such as Bay State Cruise Company and Boston Harbor Cruises, operate seasonally (usually from May to October) between Boston's Seaport District (World Trade Center Wharf or Long Wharf) and MacMillan Pier in Provincetown. The crossing with a high-speed catamaran takes only about 90 to 95 minutes and is a scenic alternative to driving. The ferries are easily accessible from Logan Airport via the Silver Line or a water taxi.
Pre-Cruise Hotel & Transfer
Given the long journey from the DACH region, an overnight stay in a pre-cruise hotel, ideally in Boston, is strongly recommended. This allows you to start your cruise experience relaxed and conveniently use one of the many transfers to Provincetown on the day of departure. In addition to the ferry connections from Boston, private shuttle services also offer luxurious, direct rides from Logan Airport to Provincetown. For travelers who prefer a rental car, the main highway Route 6 leads directly to Provincetown (driving time from Boston approx. 2.5 hours without traffic), although increased traffic volume is to be expected in the summer months. In Provincetown, several public parking lots, such as the MacMillan Pier Parking Lot, are available for short-term and long-term parking.
