Metlakatla on Annette Island is Alaska's only indigenous reservation and welcomes visitors with a deeply rooted Tsimshian culture and a pristine natural backdrop. Airplane
For guests from the DACH region, Ketchikan International Airport (KTN) is the primary gateway to Alaska. From there, short and convenient connecting flights are available via seaplanes, such as with Taquan Air, directly to the Metlakatla Seaplane Base (MTM) on Annette Island. The flight time from Ketchikan to Metlakatla is only about 12 minutes. Alternatively, Annette Island Airport (ANN) can be used, which also features two paved runways and is located about six miles south of the town of Metlakatla.
Ferry
A scenic arrival in Metlakatla is also possible by ferry from the Ketchikan Ferry Terminal. The Alaska Marine Highway offers daily crossings that take approximately 30 to 45 minutes. The Metlakatla Ferry Terminal is centrally located in the town, allowing for easy access for passengers and vehicles.
Pre-Cruise Hotel & Transfers
Due to the long journey from the DACH region, a pre-cruise overnight stay in Ketchikan is recommended to start the cruise relaxed. Hotels in Ketchikan such as The Landing Hotel & Restaurant or Cape Fox Lodge offer comfortable options. Upon arrival in Metlakatla, local taxis are available for the transfer from the seaplane base or ferry terminal to the embarkation point. Visitors wishing to stay in Metlakatla for more than 24 hours should note that a visitor permit may be required, as it is Alaska's only Indian reservation.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that your travel documents will usually provide you with a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times may change at short notice.
