Port information & tips for Huelva
Huelva is a fascinating gateway to the Andalusian coast and impresses with its deep connection to the history of the discovery of America. The city is idyllically situated at the confluence of the Odiel and Tinto rivers and offers an authentic Spanish way of life thanks to its extensive nature reserves and sun-drenched squares. Cultural highlights include the architecturally impressive Muelle del Tinto, a historic industrial monument made of iron, and the imposing Monumento a la Fe Descubridora at the picturesque river mouth. Cruise ships dock at the modern Muelle Sur (Puerto Exterior), from which the city center can be reached in about 20 minutes by shuttle bus, also providing the ideal starting point for excursions to the nearby Columbus sites.
Huelva is a rather small cruise port in Andalusia, which can be reached from the DACH region thanks to good transport links. There is currently one main terminal for cruise ships.
Airplane
The nearest major airport is Sevilla Airport (SVQ), which is located about 95 kilometers from Huelva. There are various transfer options from there: a taxi to the port of Huelva costs around 130-150 euros and the journey takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Alternatively, you can take a bus from Sevilla Airport to Huelva bus station, from where a short taxi ride to the port is possible. Faro Airport (FAO) in Portugal is also an option, around 100 kilometers away, and offers direct flights from the DACH region, but requires a border crossing and is therefore usually less directly connected for transfers.
Car
Arriving by car is convenient thanks to good motorway connections. From the direction of Sevilla, the A-49 motorway leads directly to Huelva. Coming from Portugal, use the A-22, which merges into the A-49. There are limited parking facilities in the port area of Huelva, including the Muelle de Levante car park, which is often used by cruise guests. It is advisable to obtain information in advance about long-term parking spaces or local Park & Cruise providers, as these are often organized by the respective cruise lines or offered in the immediate vicinity of the terminal.
Train
Huelva station (Estación de Huelva) is the relevant rail hub, located about 2-3 kilometers from the cruise terminal. There are regular train connections to Huelva from major Spanish cities such as Sevilla. From Huelva station, you can reach the terminal comfortably by taxi in about 5-10 minutes. Due to the longer journey from the DACH region, a combination of flight and train or an arrival the day before with an overnight stay in Huelva or Sevilla is recommended to start the cruise in a relaxed manner.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The following also applies during the trip: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always observe the current announcements and the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
