Gijón is the vibrant heart of Asturias' green coast and enchants visitors with a perfect blend of maritime flair and historic charm. The city impresses with its picturesque location on the Bay of Biscay and offers diverse opportunities for discovery thanks to the winding alleys of the Cimavilla old town district, the golden sandy beach of Playa de San Lorenzo, and the monumental sculpture Elogio del Horizonte on the Cerro de Santa Catalina. Cruise ships dock at the modern Muelle de la Osa terminal in the port of El Musel. From this berth, located about six kilometers away, guests can easily reach the center by shuttle bus to experience both the famous Asturian cider culture and the lively atmosphere of the marina firsthand.
The Port of Gijon on the Asturian coast is an important port of call for cruises in Northern Spain and impresses with its modern El Musel terminal. Thanks to its location on the Bay of Biscay and its connection to major transport axes, arrival for guests from the DACH region is straightforward.
Airplane
Asturias Airport (OVD) is located about 40 kilometers west of Gijon and is served via the hubs of Madrid and Barcelona, as well as seasonally by direct flights from German-speaking countries. The travel time to the cruise terminal is approximately 35 minutes by taxi or organized transfer; additionally, regular Alsa buses run between the airport and the city center.
Car & Parking
Travelers can easily reach Gijon via the well-developed A-8 coastal motorway (Autovía del Cantábrico) and the AS-I motorway from the south. Secure parking spaces are available in the El Musel port area as well as in central multi-story car parks in the city. Due to the distance between the port and the city center, booking a hotel with a Park & Cruise option is recommended for a relaxed arrival the day before.
Train
The modern Gijon Sanz Crespo railway station is directly connected to the Spanish long-distance network and offers, among others, fast Alvia connections from Madrid. Since the station is located about 6 kilometers from the cruise pier, it is best to take a taxi or the cruise line's official shuttle service to reach the terminal for check-in in about 15 minutes.
Check-in & Embarkation
