Port information & tips for Almeria
Almería is a sun-drenched jewel on the Andalusian coast, captivating visitors with its rich Moorish heritage and proximity to the only desert in Europe. The city welcomes guests with a charming mix of history and modernity, where palm-lined promenades convey an authentic Spanish way of life. Among the glittering highlights are the imposing Alcazaba fortress with its vast panoramic views and the fortified Cathedral of Almería. Additionally, the historic air-raid shelters, Refugios de la Guerra Civil, invite you on an exciting journey through time. Cruise ships dock at the Muelle de Levante in the Puerto de Almería, from where the vibrant city center and the historic district are easily reachable in just a few minutes on foot thanks to the prime location.
The Almeria cruise port is excellently accessible thanks to its central location at Muelle de Levante and blends directly into the cityscape, so the old town is often explorable on foot. The main terminal, the Estación Marítima de Almería, offers basic services and is an important hub for cruise ships and ferry connections.
Car
You can easily reach Almeria via the Mediterranean motorway A-7 (E-15), which provides a direct connection along the Spanish Mediterranean coast, as well as via the A-92 from the rest of Andalusia. To travel to the port, follow the A-7 to exit 438 or follow the signs for "Puerto/Almería" towards the city center. Directly at the Muelle de Levante pier, public open-air parking spaces are available for short- and long-term parking, offering direct access to the port grounds.
Train
Almeria's intermodal station is a central transport hub and is very conveniently located, just less than 500 meters or about a 10-minute walk from the cruise terminal. From here, there are good train connections, for example from cities like Madrid or Granada. From the station, you can also reach the terminal comfortably and quickly by taxi or city bus in just a few minutes.
Airplane
The nearest airport is Almeria Airport (LEI), located only about 9 to 10 kilometers east of the city. The trip to the port or city center takes about 12 to 20 minutes by taxi or rental car. Additionally, the public bus line 30 runs hourly every day of the week from the airport's arrival terminal to the city center, with a travel time of about 25 to 35 minutes. For a relaxed arrival on long-haul flights, an overnight stay before the cruise is recommended.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the trip: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
