Port information & tips for Kotor
Kotor is located at the end of the spectacular, fjord-like Gulf of Kotor and is one of the most fascinating ports of call on the Adriatic. The UNESCO-protected city impresses with its dramatic mountain backdrop, crystal-clear water, and the medieval charm of its Venetian-style alleys. Nearby, historical highlights such as the imposing Sankt-Tryphon-Kathedrale, the Uhrturm, and the massive city walls, which rise majestically to Fort San Giovanni, invite exploration. Cruise ships dock at the central Luka Kotor Pier, which is only about 100 meters from the entrance to the Altstadt. Thanks to this prime location, travelers can reach the famous Seetor in just two minutes on foot while enjoying the convenient proximity to all the cultural treasures of the historical center.
The Port of Kotor is spectacularly situated at the end of the fjord of the same name and impresses with its immediate proximity to the medieval old town. Cruise ships dock directly at the pier of Luka Kotor or anchor in the bay, with guests in both cases easily reaching the city center, which is only a few steps away.
Airplane
For travelers from the DACH region, Tivat Airport (TIV) offers the fastest connection, as it is located only about 8 kilometers from the port and can be reached in around 15 minutes by car. Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) in Croatia is also frequently used, as it is located approximately 70 kilometers away and offers a larger selection of international direct connections. Another alternative is Podgorica Airport (TGD), about 90 kilometers away, from which you can reach the terminal after a roughly one-and-a-half-hour drive through Montenegro's impressive mountain landscape.
Car
Arrival by car is via the scenic Adriatic Highway E65 or the E80, which connects Kotor directly with neighboring countries. Paid parking areas are available directly at the port as well as at the northern city wall (Tabačina parking lot) and at the Kamelija shopping center, with rates between 0.80 euros and 2.50 euros per hour. Thanks to well-signposted public parking lots such as the Riva parking lot directly at the terminal, the journey right up to the gangway is straightforward.
Transfer & Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the sometimes time-consuming border crossings when arriving via Croatia, an arrival the day before and an overnight stay in one of the old town's historic boutique hotels is recommended. Local transfer providers and taxis are available at all surrounding airports and will take you directly to the port entrance; additionally, many cruise lines offer organized shuttle buses from Dubrovnik. A stay before the cruise also allows you to explore the UNESCO-protected Bay of Kotor and nearby places like Perast at your leisure.
