Port information & tips for Bar
Bar is the maritime gateway of Montenegro and impresses with a fascinating mix of thousands of years of history, untouched nature, and the crystal-blue waters of the Adriatic. The sun-drenched port city offers a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere and harmoniously combines extensive shore promenades with an impressive mountain backdrop in the hinterland. Cultural highlights include the historical fortress town of Stari Bar, the impressive Cathedral of Saint Jovan Vladimir, as well as the over 2,000-year-old "Stara Maslina," one of the oldest olive trees in the world. Cruise ships dock directly at the passenger terminal of Luka Bar, from which the modern city center, King Nikola's Palace, and the inviting beach are easily reachable in only about 15 minutes on foot.
The Port of Bar is the maritime gateway to Montenegro, welcoming cruise guests at the centrally located passenger terminal of the Port of Adria. Thanks to its strategic location on the southern Adriatic coast and direct connection to the national transport network, travelers reach their ship comfortably and quickly.
Airplane
Podgorica Airport (TGD) is located around 45 kilometers from the port and is regularly served by flights from cities such as Vienna, Berlin, or Frankfurt. From there, you can reach the terminal in about 50 minutes by taxi, rental car, or via organized shuttle services from the cruise lines, with the journey through the modern Sozina Tunnel comfortably shortening the route.
Train
Bar forms the endpoint of the spectacular Belgrade-Bar railway line, which is considered one of the most beautiful routes in Europe and leads travelers from the hinterland directly to the coast. Bar railway station is located just two kilometers from the port area, so the transfer to the ship is easily handled by taxi or a short shuttle service in a few minutes.
Auto
The port is easy to reach for self-drivers via the picturesque coastal road E65 and the well-developed national roads, offering guarded parking facilities in the immediate vicinity of the Port of Adria. For a particularly relaxed start to your vacation, we recommend arriving the day before, including an overnight stay in the hotels of the coastal city or in the neighboring seaside resort of Sutomore.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The following also applies during the trip: For shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
