Port information & tips for Porto Torres

Porto Torres is the history-steeped gateway to northern Sardinia and welcomes travelers with the authentic charm of the Mediterranean in the picturesque Gulf of Asinara. The port city delights with its deep historical roots and, thanks to its central location, offers an ideal starting point for cultural discoveries. Highlights in the immediate vicinity include the imposing Basilica di San Gavino, the island's largest Romanesque church, as well as the archaeological museum Antiquarium Turritano and the impressive ancient Ponte Romano. Cruise ships prefer to dock at Banchina Dogana-Segni or Molo ASI, from where the lively city center is easily accessible. This ideal connection allows guests direct access to historical sights and the city's inviting promenades.

The port of Porto Torres in northwestern Sardinia is a modern and important passenger port that is easily accessible thanks to its strategic location. The passenger areas and terminals are well-equipped and feature a free internal shuttle bus during the high season, connecting the quays, terminals, the train station, and the city center.

Airplane

The nearest airport is Alghero (AHO), located approximately 24.5 to 31 kilometers from Porto Torres. From Alghero Airport, you can easily reach the port by ARST bus in about 35 to 40 minutes. Alternatively, taxis and private transfer services are available, which will take you to the terminal in approximately 28 to 40 minutes. Another option is Olbia Airport (OLB), which is about 94 kilometers away and can also be reached by car or transfer. When traveling from the DACH region, it is recommended to arrive one day before embarkation due to flight schedules.

Car

Sardinia is excellent for exploring by car, and the port of Porto Torres is well-connected to the regional road network. You can reach the port comfortably via the SS131 highway (also known as E25), which leads directly towards Porto Torres. Simply follow the clear signs for the "Passagierterminal". For parking, there are free public parking options in the port area, for example at Pontile Antonio Segni, about 3.5 kilometers from the ferry piers.

Train

Porto Torres Marittima station offers a very convenient arrival, as it is located in the immediate vicinity of the port and only a short walk from the terminal. From the station, you can easily reach the cruise terminal on foot. From here, there are also comfortable train connections to other important Sardinian cities such as Sassari, Cagliari, and Olbia, allowing for flexible onward travel within the island.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is generally about one hour before the scheduled departure.

The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to current announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
