Port information & tips for Porto Cervo
Porto Cervo is the glamorous heart of the Costa Smeralda in Sardinia and is considered one of the most exclusive harbors in the Mediterranean. Designed by Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, the settlement fascinates with its harmonious architecture that blends perfectly into the rugged coastal landscape, enchanting visitors with a mix of luxury, emerald green water, and Mediterranean charm. Highlights include the iconic Stella Maris church with its wide panoramic view, the bustling Piazzetta as the social center, and the exclusive Promenade du Port. Cruise ships usually lie at anchor and bring guests by tender boat directly to the Molo Vecchio in Porto Vecchio. From this mooring point, the boutiques, cafes, and sights are easily accessible within a few minutes' walk.
Porto Cervo, the glamorous heart of the Costa Smeralda, is primarily a tender port. Cruise ships anchor off the coast, and guests are comfortably brought by tender boats directly into the charming marina, which also forms the center of the exclusive resort. The luxurious destination on Sardinia is excellently accessible thanks to good connections via the nearest airport and road networks.
Airplane
The nearest airport is Olbia Costa Smeralda (OLB), only about 25 to 30 kilometers from Porto Cervo. Numerous direct flights to Olbia are available during the season from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Given the island location and international travel, a night in a pre-cruise hotel in Olbia or Porto Cervo is recommended to start your cruise relaxed.
Transfer & Shuttle
From Olbia Airport (OLB), you can reach Porto Cervo comfortably by taxi or private transfer service in about 30 to 45 minutes, with prices starting from approx. 95 Euro. In addition, public bus lines such as ARST or Sunlines (e.g., Line 20 during the season) operate between Olbia (Airport/Train Station) and Porto Cervo. A bus ride takes about 35 minutes to 1.5 hours and costs between 2 and 10 Euro.
Auto
Porto Cervo is connected to the Sardinian road network via well-developed roads. From Olbia, the SS125 and subsequent well-signposted roads lead directly to the Costa Smeralda. Various parking options are available in Porto Cervo for car travelers, including the underground parking garage at the Promenade du Port or parking lots in the area of the Old Port. Free parking spaces for vans and 4x4 vehicles can also be found near the harbor. Prior online reservation is recommended.
Check-in & Einschiffung
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your travel to the port accordingly and consider that the latest embarkation time – depending on the cruise line and destination – is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the cruise: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at the latest one hour before departure. Always observe the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
