Port information & tips for Gallipoli
Gallipoli, often referred to as the "Pearl of the Ionian Sea", is a glamorous highlight on the sun-drenched coast of Puglia. The enchanting old town is picturesquely situated on a limestone island and welcomes visitors with a unique Mediterranean flair, Baroque architecture, and the lively hustle and bustle of its narrow streets. Cultural highlights include the mighty Castello Angioino-Aragonese, the magnificent Cattedrale di Sant'Agata, and the historical Fontana Greca at the transition to the new town. Cruise ships dock at the Molo Foraneo in the port of Gallipoli, from where guests can reach the pulsating heart of the old town and the nearby city beaches in just a few minutes on foot across the historical bridge, thanks to the central location.
Gallipoli, often referred to as the "Pearl of the Ionian Sea," welcomes cruise guests with Mediterranean charm. The port is well-connected, with ships mostly docking at the main pier or, in the case of larger vessels, remaining offshore due to tender requirements, with passengers brought by boat directly to the historic old town. The charming old town is easily reachable on foot from the landing point.
Airplane
The nearest airport is Brindisi Salento Airport (BDS), approximately 86 kilometers from Gallipoli. Numerous airlines offer connections from European cities, often with a convenient transfer for guests from the DACH region. Arriving the day before is recommended for late arrival times to ensure a relaxed start to the cruise.
Transfer & Shuttle
From Brindisi Airport (BDS), you can reach Gallipoli in about 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes by taxi or private transfer. Various private transfer services offer comfortable rides directly to the port or to your pre-cruise hotel. Alternatively, shuttle services are available, taking about 1.5 to 2 hours and providing a cost-effective option.
Auto
After arriving in Puglia, the superstrada leads from Brindisi to Lecce, from where the SS101 state road takes you directly to Gallipoli in about 30 minutes over 32 kilometers. Parking is available near the port and the old town of Gallipoli. The "Parking lot Port of Gallipoli" is located near the old town and is open 24/7. Please note that payment is often required in coins and foreign credit cards are not always accepted. For free parking, arrival before 15:00 is recommended; after that, the "blue zones" are subject to a fee.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that your travel documents usually provide a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is generally about one hour before the scheduled departure.
The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
