Capri is a glittering jewel in the Gulf of Naples and embodies the epitome of Mediterranean elegance. The island enchants visitors with its dramatic cliffs, the azure sea, and an exclusive atmosphere that has attracted travelers from all over the world for decades. Right at the harbor, highlights such as the famous Blue Grotto, which is easily accessible by boat, as well as the picturesque Marina Grande with its colorful house fronts, entice visitors. Cruise ships usually lie at anchor off the island and bring their guests by tender boat to the central pier Molo Pennello in Marina Grande. Thanks to the historic Funicolare funicular railway, visitors can reach the elegant Piazzetta in the vibrant center of Capri directly in just a few minutes.
Capri, the magical island in the Gulf of Naples, is not a classic embarkation port for large cruise ships, but is instead visited by most liners as a tender port. Arrival for guests from the DACH region is primarily via the Italian mainland, from where the island can be easily reached by ferry. The main terminal on Capri is Marina Grande.
Airplane & Transfer to the Ferry Port
The nearest international airport is Aeroporto di Napoli-Capodichino (NAP) in Naples, which is served directly or with a connection from many German, Austrian, and Swiss cities. From Naples Airport, you can reach the ferry port of Molo Beverello or Calata Porta di Massa in about 20-30 minutes by taxi, Alibus (shuttle bus), or a pre-booked transfer. From there, ferries and high-speed boats depart regularly for Capri.
Train & Transfer to the Ferry Port
Travelers from the DACH region can easily reach the main railway station, Napoli Centrale, via international train connections (often with a change in Northern Italy or Rome). From the station square (Piazza Garibaldi), it is just a few stops by metro (Line 1 to Municipio) or about 15-20 minutes by taxi to the ferry port of Molo Beverello or Calata Porta di Massa, from where the crossing to Capri begins.
Ferry & Arrival on Capri
The crossing to Capri takes place from Naples (Molo Beverello or Calata Porta di Massa) or Sorrento. High-speed boats (Aliscafi) take about 40-50 minutes from Naples, while ferries (Traghetti) take around 80 minutes and can also transport vehicles, though the bringing of tourist vehicles to Capri is restricted or prohibited seasonally. On Capri, all ferries and high-speed boats dock at the port of Marina Grande, from where the famous Funicolare funicular railway runs directly into the center of Capri town. Arriving the day before with an overnight stay in Naples or Sorrento is recommended for a relaxed start to your island stay.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed check-in time slot with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination area—is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the cruise: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
