Skiathos is the glittering jewel of the Northern Sporades and welcomes cruise guests with an incomparably charming Greek island flair. The picturesque port city impresses with its white house facades, the winding alleys of the Old Town, and the crystal-clear, turquoise waters of the Aegean. Right at the harbor, the historic fortress peninsula of Bourtzi with its shady pines as well as the Papadiamantis House invite discovery, and the Agios Nikolaos Church offers a spectacular panoramic view over the bay. Ships usually dock at the central New Port (Neos Limenas), allowing travelers to reach the lively city center with its excellent tavernas and boutiques within a few minutes' walk thanks to the prime location.
Skiathos is an enchanting Greek island and a popular starting point for cruises in the Northern Sporades. The port is located directly in the lively island capital and is easily accessible thanks to the nearby airport and good ferry connections from the mainland. There are no separate terminals; embarkation takes place centrally in the port area.
Airplane
Skiathos Island National Airport (JSI), also known as Alexandros Papadiamantis Airport, is located only about 2 kilometers from the port. It receives domestic flights from Athens and Thessaloniki year-round, as well as seasonal charter flights from various European countries. The journey from the airport to the port takes only 5 to 15 minutes by taxi or bus, with taxi costs ranging between 10 and 20 euros. Taxis are available at the airport at all times, and public buses also provide an affordable transfer option directly in front of the arrival terminal.
Ferry
Many guests from the DACH region reach Skiathos by ferry from the Greek mainland. Daily ferries operate year-round from Volos in Thessaly and Mantoudi in Euboea. During the high season, typically from May to September, there are also seasonal connections from Thessaloniki and Agios Konstantinos. The crossing from Volos takes between 1.5 and 3 hours depending on the type of ship, and from Thessaloniki an average of 3.5 hours. Tickets should be booked in advance, especially in the summer months, as ferries can be fully booked. The port of Skiathos is centrally located and well-integrated into the local bus network.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the combination of flight and ferry crossing or in the case of late flight arrivals, an overnight stay in a pre-cruise hotel on Skiathos is recommended. This allows for a relaxed start to your cruise without the pressure of time during travel. The port area in Skiathos Town offers numerous hotels and accommodations within walking distance or a short taxi ride from the ferry landing and the airport. Parking for rental cars can be found in the surrounding side streets and at designated public parking lots on the edge of the town center. Some cruise lines also offer hotel and transfer packages that enable a seamless journey.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the journey: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
