Port information & tips for Pylos
Pylos is a picturesque jewel on the Ionian Sea and is considered one of the most historical towns in the Peloponnese. The town impresses with its horseshoe-shaped Bay of Navarino and a charming, almost French flair, highlighted by white houses and shaded arcades. Cultural highlights include the imposing Neokastro fortress directly at the harbor entrance and the central Square of the Three Admirals with its centuries-old plane trees. Cruise ships usually anchor in the protected bay and guests reach the port of Pylos comfortably by tender boat. Since the landing stage is located at the central pier, the lively town center and numerous historical monuments are within immediate walking distance.

Airplane
The closest and most relevant airport for your arrival is Kalamata International Airport (KLX). It is located only around 34 to 43 kilometers from Pylos, allowing for a short onward journey. Numerous European airlines connect Kalamata, often with a layover, with cities in the DACH region. For a relaxed arrival, it is recommended to consider the flight time and any transfers when planning your trip.
Transfer & Shuttle
From Kalamata Airport (KLX), you can easily reach Pylos by taxi or a pre-booked transfer. A taxi ride takes about 50 minutes and costs between 40 and 55 euros. Many private transfer providers are available and offer a comfortable door-to-door service, which is particularly advantageous after a long flight or a late arrival. A pre-booking, especially during the high season, ensures a smooth onward journey.
Auto
Thanks to good road connections, Pylos is also excellently reachable by rental car. From Athens, the modern A7 motorway leads directly to the destination in about 3.5 to 4 hours of driving time (approx. 270 km). From the direction of Kalamata, you can reach Pylos in around one hour. Directly at the port of Pylos, especially in the area of the marina, free parking spaces are available, making arrival with your own or a rented vehicle particularly flexible. A rental car also offers the ideal opportunity to individually explore the beautiful landscape of the Peloponnese and the historical sites around Pylos.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
