The sun-drenched island of Hvar is considered the jewel of the Croatian Adriatic and impresses with its exclusive blend of Mediterranean history and glamorous lifestyle. In the picturesque port town of Hvar, guests stroll past stately limestone palaces and enjoy the lively bustle between luxurious yachts and fragrant pine forests. Cultural highlights include the baroque Cathedral of Saint Stephen and the Fortica Fortress, which towers over the city and offers a breathtaking view of the archipelago. Cruise ships usually anchor in the protected bay, from where tender boats bring passengers directly to the central Gat Sv. Nikole pier. Thanks to this perfect location, visitors can reach the historic old town and the elegant Riva promenade comfortably on foot within just a few moments.
The port of the island of Hvar is a jewel of the Croatian Adriatic and, due to its location, is usually reached via the central hub of Split on the mainland. While smaller ships dock directly at the pier in Hvar Town or Stari Grad, larger cruise ships often use the anchorage off the coast and bring guests comfortably ashore by tender boats.
Airplane
Split Airport (SPU) is the most important gateway for travelers from the DACH region and offers direct flight connections from cities such as Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna, and Zurich. After landing, you can reach the ferry port of Split in about 30 to 40 minutes by taxi or the airport shuttle bus, and from there, take the fast catamaran directly to Hvar Town in around 60 minutes.
Car & Ferry
Arrival by private car is via the well-developed Croatian A1 motorway to the Split exit, from where signs lead directly to the port. For cruise guests, guarded long-term parking is available at the port of Split as well as in nearby parking garages, so you can safely leave your car on the mainland and continue your journey relaxed with the passenger ferry.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Since catamaran and ferry connections to the island can be weather-dependent and must be coordinated with flight times, an overnight stay in Split or directly in Hvar Town on the previous day is highly recommended. A stay in a hotel near the Riva of Split also allows for a visit to the historic Diocletian's Palace and ensures a stress-free transition to embarkation the next day.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that your travel documents will usually provide you with a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
