Cultural highlights include the Ammassalik Museum in the historic old church as well as the Stunk arts and crafts workshop, while nature lovers find peace in the idyllic Flower Valley (Blomsterdalen). As cruise ships usually lie at anchor in the protected fjord, guests reach the central Tasiilaq Pier comfortably by tender boat and, thanks to the prime location, find themselves immediately in the heart of the town for explorations on foot.
Tasiilaq (Ammassalik) is a remote yet fascinating cruise port on Greenland's east coast, primarily reached from the DACH region by plane followed by local transfers. There are no direct road or rail connections, and cruise ships typically anchor in King Oscar Fjord, with guests being brought to the small town quay by tender boat. There is no dedicated cruise terminal.
Airplane
Travel from the DACH region typically involves flying via Reykjavik in Iceland. From Reykjavik Domestic Airport, you fly directly to Kulusuk Airport (KUS) in East Greenland. These flights are operated by Air Iceland Connect and vary in frequency depending on the season, with daily connections available during the summer months. An overnight stay in Reykjavik is often recommended due to flight schedules to ensure a relaxed journey.
Domestic Flight & Transfer
From Kulusuk Airport (KUS), Tasiilaq, which is about 24 to 25 kilometers away, is accessible exclusively by helicopter or, during the summer months, also by boat. Air Greenland offers year-round helicopter transfers that take about 10 to 15 minutes and operate several times a day. During the summer months (June to mid-September), a boat transfer is also available, taking about 30 to 60 minutes. Transportation from Kulusuk Airport to the harbor for the boat trip is usually included.
Pre-Cruise Hotel & Embarkation
Due to the complex and multi-stage journey to Tasiilaq, an overnight stay in Reykjavik and/or Kulusuk before the start of your cruise is strongly recommended to avoid travel stress and buffer potential flight delays. Since Tasiilaq is a port of call rather than a departure port, embarkation and the return to the ship always take place via tender boat from the town quay in King Oscar Fjord. Tasiilaq town center is within walking distance of the pier in about 5 to 15 minutes.
