Paamiut, also known as the City of White-Tailed Eagles, is a hidden gem on the southwestern coast of Greenland and impresses with an pristine, Arctic backdrop. In addition, cruise ships anchor in the picturesque bay and use tender boats to the central Paamiut Harbour Pier, from where the compact city center and all sights can be easily reached within a few minutes' walk.
Paamiut, a jewel on Greenland's southwest coast, is accessible exclusively by plane or ship, as there are no road connections between towns. Cruise ships anchor in the bay, and guests are comfortably brought by tender boats to the manageable town center, which can be easily explored on foot.
Airplane
Arrival from the DACH region is primarily by plane via Greenland's larger airports, such as Nuuk (GOH) or Narsarsuaq (UAK), which offer international connections. From there, connecting flights are available with Air Greenland to the regional Paamiut Airport (JFR). Paamiut Airport is located only about 1.4 to 2.2 kilometers northeast of the town center, and many visitors choose the short walk into town. Booking a taxi in advance is also possible for a comfortable transfer taking about 5–10 minutes.
Local Transfers & Ferry Connections
Within Greenland, further flight connections are the fastest option, such as the roughly two-hour connection from Nuuk to Paamiut. Alternatively, the coastal ferry Sarfaq Ittuk of the Arctic Umiaq Line offers a scenic way to reach Paamiut from other coastal towns, with the ferry docking twice a week. Since Paamiut does not provide public buses or taxis for tourists, exploration of the town and its immediate surroundings is usually done on foot.

Due to the remote location and the often weather-dependent flight schedules in Greenland, it is highly recommended to plan your arrival carefully and spend at least one day before embarkation in a Greenlandic town like Nuuk or Narsarsuaq.
