Port information & tips for Worms
The Nibelungen city of Worms is one of the most historic places on the Rhine and welcomes cruise guests with an impressive combination of medieval heritage and a relaxed river atmosphere. The cityscape is characterized by monumental architecture and, thanks to its central location, offers an ideal starting point for cultural discoveries. Among the most significant sights are the Romanesque Kaiserdom St. Peter, the imposing Lutherdenkmal, and the "Heiliger Sand," which is considered the oldest preserved Jewish cemetery in Europe. River cruise ships dock directly at the ship pier on the Worms Rhine promenade, from where the historic city center and the Nibelungenmuseum can be easily reached on foot in a short walk of about ten minutes.
Worms, located on the Rhine, is a popular stop for river cruises and is easily accessible by car and train thanks to its central location in Rhineland-Palatinate. There is no special, large cruise terminal here as in seaports; ships usually dock on the banks of the Rhine near the city center.
Auto
Worms is well connected to the German highway network. You can reach the city quickly via the A6 (Mannheim/Saarbrücken), A61 (Cologne/Ludwigshafen), and A67 (Darmstadt/Mannheim) motorways. After reaching the city area, follow the signs towards "Rhein" or "Hafen". Parking options for cruise guests are often found in public parking garages in the city center or through special "Park & Cruise" offers from hotels in the vicinity, which may provide a transfer to the pier.
Bahn
Worms Main Station (Worms Hbf) is a regional hub with regular connections to cities including Mainz, Ludwigshafen, and Mannheim, where there is access to the ICE network. From the main station, you can easily reach the ship docks on the banks of the Rhine in a short walk of about 15-20 minutes or alternatively by taxi in a few minutes.
Flugzeug
The nearest international airport is Frankfurt Airport (FRA), located about 60 to 70 kilometers north of Worms. It offers numerous direct connections from across the DACH region. From Frankfurt Airport, you can reach Worms via Deutsche Bahn via Mannheim or Mainz. The journey time by train, including transfers, is usually between 60 and 90 minutes. A taxi or rental car takes about 45 to 60 minutes for the route, depending on traffic.
Check-in & Einschiffung
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and take into account that the latest embarkation time – depending on the cruise line and destination area – is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the trip: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
