Wolfsburg, located in the heart of Lower Saxony, serves as an important starting point for river cruises on the Mittellandkanal and is easily accessible by various means of transport thanks to its excellent infrastructure. The piers for passenger ships are mostly centrally located, often in the immediate vicinity of the Autostadt and the main train station.
Car
Wolfsburg is perfectly connected to the German road network via the A2 (Hannover-Berlin) and A39 (Braunschweig-Salzwedel) motorways. This allows for a comfortable journey from all regions of Germany. For long-term parking, it is recommended to inquire in advance directly with the respective river cruise provider or at local parking garages and hotels near the piers (e.g., in the area of the Autostadt or the main train station) for special offers. The immediate surroundings of the piers on the Mittellandkanal are well signposted.
Train
Wolfsburg Hauptbahnhof is a central hub in the German rail network and offers numerous ICE connections from major cities such as Berlin, Hannover, or Frankfurt. This makes traveling with Deutsche Bahn particularly attractive. Many river cruise piers are located in the immediate vicinity of the main station and the Autostadt, so you can easily reach your ship after a short walk or a brief taxi ride.
Airplane
The nearest major airport is Hannover (HAJ), about 74 kilometers from Wolfsburg. From there, there are good train connections via Hannover Hauptbahnhof to Wolfsburg. Alternatively, Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER), approximately 185 kilometers away, is another option with good connections by train or rental car. For a relaxed embarkation, especially after long flights, arriving the day before and staying overnight in one of the Wolfsburg hotels is recommended.
Check-in & Embarkation
