Port information & tips for Wiesbaden
Wiesbaden is the elegant capital of Hesse and one of the most traditional spa towns in Europe, located directly on the picturesque banks of the Rhine. The city impresses with its sophisticated charm, magnificent villa architecture, and an excellent quality of life amidst extensive parkgrounds. Cultural highlights in the immediate vicinity include the Baroque Schloss Biebrich with its splendid park, as well as the grand Kurhaus and the historic Kochbrunnen in the nearby city center. River cruise ships dock at the central pier in Wiesbaden-Biebrich, which is situated directly in front of the impressive palace backdrop. Thanks to excellent transport connections or a short taxi ride, the city center, located about five kilometers away with its exclusive boulevards and thermal springs, can be reached quickly and comfortably.
Wiesbaden is a charming gateway to unforgettable river cruises on the Rhine and, thanks to its central location, is easily accessible for guests from the DACH region. The most important docking points are located in Wiesbaden-Biebrich, directly at the magnificent Schloss Biebrich, as well as in Schiersteiner Hafen, allowing for a comfortable embarkation.
Car
Wiesbaden is excellently connected to the German highway network, particularly via the A66, which provides direct access to the city. In addition, the A3 and A643 highways are quickly reachable, guaranteeing a convenient journey from all directions. For travelers heading to the pier at Schloss Biebrich, parking is available in the side street "Am Parkfeld" as well as in a parking lot on the western side of the palace park, from where you can reach the ships in just 5-10 minutes on foot. It is recommended to check available parking spaces online in advance or to take advantage of special offers from the cruise lines for longer parking periods.
Train
Wiesbaden Hauptbahnhof is a major railway hub with excellent ICE and IC connections from all parts of Germany. From there, city bus lines 4 or 14 take you comfortably in about 15-20 minutes directly to the "Rheinufer/Rheingaustraße" or "Schloss Biebrich" stops, which are located right next to the ship piers.
Airplane
The nearest international airport is Frankfurt am Main (FRA), located only about 23 to 35 kilometers from Wiesbaden. Thanks to frequent S-Bahn connections (lines S8 and S9), you can reach Wiesbaden Hauptbahnhof in about 30 to 40 minutes. From there, buses or taxis are available for the short transfer to the banks of the Rhine. For maximum comfort, various private transfer services offer convenient rides from the airport directly to the pier in about 25-45 minutes. Arriving the day before is recommended for international flights to start your river cruise in a relaxed manner.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and bear in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the cruise: For shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
