Port information & tips for Torgau

Torgau on the Elbe is a fascinating destination for river cruises and impresses as one of Germany's best-preserved Renaissance towns. Its picturesque location on the riverbank creates an inviting atmosphere and allows visitors to explore historical treasures in a relaxed way thanks to the short distances. Outstanding sights include the magnificent Schloss Hartenfels with its famous Wendelstein, as well as the Stadtkirche St. Marien and the Elbe Day Monument. Ships dock at the central Torgau pier on Pestalozzistraße, which is located in the immediate vicinity of the castle. From here, guests can easily reach the charming old town and all the main highlights in just a few minutes on foot, making their stay particularly pleasant and eventful.

Torgau, the historic Renaissance city on the Elbe, welcomes river cruise passengers with a charming atmosphere and excellent accessibility. Ships typically dock directly on the banks of the Elbe, allowing for short walks to the center and the local sights.

Car

Thanks to its direct connection to the B87, B182, and B183 federal roads, Torgau is easily accessible by car. From the A9 (Munich-Berlin) and A14 (Dresden-Halle) motorways, you can reach Torgau via well-signposted exits such as Schkeuditzer Kreuz (A9 to A14, approx. 50 km), Coswig (A9 via Wittenberg, approx. 70 km), or Leipzig Nord-Ost (A14, approx. 50 km). Numerous parking options are available in the city center, including free and unlimited options such as the P1 car park on Straße der Jugend or the P4 car park directly at the Pestalozziweg pier on the Elbe embankment, which is also suitable for larger vehicles and is only a 6-7 minute walk from the city center.

Train

Torgau station is centrally located and offers a direct connection to the core network of Deutsche Bahn AG. Regular train services, such as the S4 or the RE10, connect Torgau directly with Leipzig, Falkenberg, Cottbus, and Hoyerswerda. Taxis are available at the station for a comfortable transfer to the pier. Additionally, the Service Center at Torgau station provides tickets and travel advice. The river cruise pier is generally just a short walk from the city center.

Airplane

The nearest airport is Leipzig/Halle (LEJ), located approximately 55.8 kilometers from Torgau. Alternatively, Dresden Airport (DRS) is reachable at about 72.2 kilometers, and Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) is around 96.2 kilometers away. Various transfer options are available from Leipzig/Halle to Torgau, including train, taxi, or rental car, with driving being the fastest option. For a relaxed journey, especially for international flights, it may be advisable to consider arriving the evening before and staying overnight in Torgau or one of the surrounding cities.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and bear in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is generally about one hour before the scheduled departure.

The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times may change at short notice.
