Port information & tips for Stralsund

Stralsund is the magnificent gateway to Rügen Island and enchants visitors as a UNESCO World Heritage city with its authentic Hanseatic charm. Its location directly on the Strelasund offers a first-class maritime backdrop of Brick Gothic architecture, historic gabled houses, and sweeping views over the water. Highlights such as the impressive OZEANEUM and the legendary Gorch Fock I are located directly on the quayside, while the historic Alter Markt is just a short walk away. Cruise ships usually dock at the central harbor island in the city port, from where the picturesque Old Town can be easily reached in just a few minutes on foot, allowing travelers to immediately immerse themselves in the lively atmosphere of this history-steeped Hanseatic city.

Stralsund, with its location on the Strelasund, is a charming starting point for Baltic Sea and river cruises and is easily accessible via the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania transport network. Ships primarily use the central Stadthafen on the Hafeninsel or the nearby Frankenhafen, both of which allow for convenient embarkation in the immediate vicinity of the historic Altstadt.

Car

The route leads directly into the city area and to the port sectors via the Ostseeautobahn A20 and the B96 Rügen feeder road. For the duration of the cruise, central parking garages such as the Parkhaus am Ozeaneum are available; additionally, specialized Park & Cruise providers offer secure parking spaces including a comfortable shuttle service directly to the ship.

Train

Stralsund Hauptbahnhof is excellently connected to the long-distance rail network and offers regular direct connections from Berlin, Hamburg, and Rostock. The onward journey to the terminal is straightforward by taxi in about five to ten minutes or with the VVR local buses, which ensure a direct connection to the Hafeninsel and the Stadthafen.

Airplane

For arrival from further away, the regional Rostock-Laage Airport (RLG) as well as the international hubs Berlin (BER) and Hamburg (HAM) are available. From Rostock-Laage, you can reach the port in about 75 minutes by taxi or rental car, and from Berlin or Hamburg airports, you can enjoy a comfortable onward journey with direct train connections to the Hanseatic city.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your arrival at the port and consider that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times may change at short notice.
