Port information & tips for Rathenow

Rathenow is idyllically situated on the Havel and, as the historic "City of Optics", is a fascinating destination in the heart of the Havelland region. The city exudes an inviting charm and harmoniously combines natural river landscapes with a significant industrial tradition. Special highlights include the extensive Optikpark with its artistic gardens, as well as the world's largest giant telescope and the historic Sankt-Marien-Andreas-Kirche. River cruise ships dock directly at the central passenger ship pier Am Alten Hafen, which offers an ideal starting point for individual exploration. Thanks to this first-class location, travelers can easily reach the lively city center and the Optik-Industrie-Museum within a few minutes' walk while enjoying the maritime atmosphere directly by the water.

Rathenow, idyllically situated on the Havel, is a charming destination for river cruises and is easily accessible from the DACH region thanks to its good transport links. The docking points for ships are located close to the center along the Havel and are well signposted.

Car

Rathenow is directly connected to the regional road network via federal highways such as the B102 and B188. An important connection to the A2 motorway exists via Brandenburg an der Havel. In Rathenow itself, you will find parking facilities near the docking points, such as at the Alter Hafen, which allow for convenient access to your ship.

Train

Rathenow station is a regional hub with regular connections to cities including Berlin, Stendal, and Magdeburg. From there, you can easily reach the docking points at the harbor by bus (lines such as 676, 680, or the RB51 train line), or you can take a taxi for a short ride to the ship. The station also offers P+R facilities.

Airplane

The nearest international airport is Berlin Brandenburg (BER), located approximately 83 kilometers away. From there, a comfortable train connection to Rathenow station takes about 1.5 hours. Alternatively, the transfer by car is possible in around 1 hour and 15 minutes. When arriving by plane, a relaxed pre-cruise overnight stay in Berlin or directly in Rathenow is recommended to begin your river cruise well-rested.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is generally about one hour before the scheduled departure.

The same applies during the trip: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
