Port information & tips for Kiel

Kiel is the maritime gateway to the Baltic Sea and one of the most important cruise ports in Northern Europe. The charming state capital impresses with its location directly on the Kiel Fjord and offers a lively atmosphere with North German flair and a wide horizon. In the immediate vicinity of the water, the expansive Kiellinie, the Maritime Museum in the historic Fish Hall, and the traditional St. Nikolai-Kirche invite you to explore. Cruise ships usually dock at the modern Ostseekai or the central Schwedenkai, from where passengers can easily reach the bustling city center and the Holstenstraße shopping mile in just a few minutes' walk thanks to the first-class location.

Kiel is one of the most significant cruise ports on the Baltic Sea, characterized by short distances between the city center and the Ostseekai, Schwedenkai, and Norwegenkai terminals. Only the terminal at Ostuferhafen is located slightly further out, but it is also easily accessible thanks to excellent signage and shuttle services.

Car

Travelers from the south can reach the heart of the state capital and the terminals directly via the A7 and A215 motorways. Finding a parking space is straightforward thanks to the official port parking lots at Ostseekai and specialized Park & Cruise providers, with many service providers also guaranteeing a convenient luggage and shuttle service directly to the gangway.

Train

Kiel Central Station is a central hub for regional and long-distance travel and is located within direct sight of the inner-city cruise piers. You can reach the Ostseekai after a short walk of about 15 minutes along the Kieler Förde or within a few minutes by taxi, while comfortable shuttle buses from the cruise lines are often available directly at the station forecourt for guests bound for Ostuferhafen.

Airplane

The nearest international airport is Hamburg Airport (HAM), located around 90 kilometers south of Kiel and served by direct flights from across the DACH region. From there, the Kielius airport bus provides a direct connection to Kiel Central Station; in addition, private transfer services and cruise line shuttles allow for a relaxed travel time of approximately 60 to 75 minutes to the ship.
