Port information & tips for Karlstadt

Karlstadt am Main is an enchanting gem in the heart of Lower Franconia, welcoming travelers with a perfect blend of medieval heritage and Franconian joie de vivre. The idyllic location directly on the riverbank impresses with a completely preserved town wall, magnificent half-timbered houses, and the striking silhouette of the Karlsburg ruins on the opposite side of the Main. Cultural highlights include the splendid Historisches Rathaus with its ornate facade, the town parish church of St. Andreas, and the prominent Katzenturm. River cruise ships use the central mooring point at the Mainkai, which, thanks to its prime location, provides immediate access to the historic old town and makes all sights easily reachable within just a few minutes' walk.

The nearby A3 motorway (Frankfurt-Würzburg) allows for a convenient journey from the entire DACH region. Numerous parking options are available around the Altstadt in Karlstadt. The Altstadtgarage on Ringstraße, for example, offers multi-day tickets for up to 28 days, ideal for longer cruises. In addition, there are other parking lots with unlimited use, such as on Eußenheimer Straße or Gemündener Straße.

Train

From the station, you can easily reach the ship pier, which is only a few steps away from the Altstadt, on foot or with one of the local taxi companies, such as Taxi Duhnke or Taxi Fischer.

Airplane

For international guests, Frankfurt Airport (FRA) is the nearest major airport. It is approximately 100 to 110 kilometers from Karlstadt and can be reached by car in about 1 hour and 10 minutes. Train connections from Frankfurt Airport to Karlstadt take around 2 hours and 8 minutes with a change (e.g., in Aschaffenburg Hbf or Würzburg Hbf). For longer journeys, a relaxing overnight stay in a pre-cruise hotel in Frankfurt am Main or Würzburg is recommended before the start of your river cruise.
