Port information & tips for Karlsruhe

Karlsruhe, the Baden residence city on the Upper Rhine, welcomes visitors with a unique blend of Baroque splendor and modern innovation. Known as the "Fan City," the metropolis impresses with its symmetrical architecture and extensive green spaces that invite you to take a relaxed stroll. Highlights include the magnificent Karlsruher Schloss with its spacious palace gardens and the world-renowned ZKM | Center for Art and Media, which delights visitors with its interactive exhibitions. In addition, the Marktplatz with its distinctive pyramid offers a striking photo opportunity in the heart of the city. Ships dock at the passenger pier in the Rheinhafen Karlsruhe, from where travelers can easily reach the city center in about 15 minutes by shuttle or S-Bahn and thus dive directly into the vibrant city life.

Karlsruhe, the "fan city" on the Rhine, is a popular starting point for river cruises and is easily accessible thanks to its central location in southern Germany. The berths for river cruise ships are located in the Rheinhäfen Karlsruhe, and travelers are advised to check the exact docking position in their travel documents.

Car

Arriving by car is convenient thanks to the excellent transport links. You can reach the Rheinhafen directly via the Karlsruhe Südtangente (B 10) and the "Rheinhafen" exit. Travelers arriving via the BAB 5 should use the "Karlsruhe-Mitte" or "Karlsruhe-Süd" exits, while guests from the BAB 8 should take the Karlsruhe interchange toward Frankfurt and then the "Karlsruhe-Mitte" exit. For the duration of your river cruise, it is recommended to book a secure long-term parking space in advance to start your vacation relaxed.

Train

Karlsruhe Hauptbahnhof (Hbf) is a central hub in the German rail network and offers numerous direct connections from across the DACH region. From there, you can reach the berths in the Rheinhäfen comfortably by taxi. Alternatively, tram line 5 takes you to the Rheinhafen stop, from where you can use an on-call line taxi (ALT 64) upon prior request if needed.

Airplane

Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport (FKB) is the nearest airport and is only a few minutes' drive from Karlsruhe. Thanks to various airport transfer services, you can reach your berth punctually and without stress. Additionally, there is the option of arriving via the slightly more distant Frankfurt Airport (FRA) and using a convenient shuttle service to Karlsruhe.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the trip: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times may change at short notice.
