Port information & tips for Eberswalde
Eberswalde, the charming "Waldstadt" (forest city) in the heart of Brandenburg, welcomes river travelers as a green gateway to the Barnim region directly on the historic Oder-Havel Canal. The city impresses with a unique symbiosis of vibrant industrial culture and idyllic nature, creating a relaxed atmosphere by the water. Highlights include the extensive Familiengarten Eberswalde with its impressive relics of the steel industry, as well as the award-winning Zoo Eberswalde, which is considered one of the most beautiful in Germany. River cruise ships dock at the central Stadthafen Eberswalde, from where the historical Altstadt and the lively Marktplatz can be easily reached in just a few minutes on foot thanks to the excellent location, making the shore excursion particularly convenient for visitors.
Eberswalde is a charming port for river cruises in Brandenburg and, thanks to its location northeast of Berlin, is excellently connected to the German transport network. The berths for river cruise ships are centrally located on the Finowkanal or in the Messingwerkhafen, ensuring convenient accessibility.
Car
Getting to Eberswalde is comfortable thanks to good motorway connections. From the direction of Berlin or Prenzlau, take the A11 to the Finowfurt exit and then follow the B167 directly to Eberswalde. Alternatively, the B2 leads into the city from the direction of Bernau or Schwedt. Free parking is available on the outskirts of the city, and a parking guidance system makes orientation easier. In addition, there are central and inexpensive parking options such as the Finowkanal car park in Bergerstraße, which can be used for a maximum of 2.50 euros per day. For flexible short-term parkers, mobile parking via the Parkster app is also possible.
Train
Eberswalde Hauptbahnhof is excellently integrated into the rail network and is located on the RE3 route between Berlin and Stralsund. With two connections per hour, you can reach Eberswalde from Berlin Hauptbahnhof in around half an hour. From the station, you can easily reach the city centre and the river cruise berths by bus – for example with the trolleybus lines 861 and 862 – or by taxi. The main station itself is also barrier-free and has lifts to all platforms.
Airplane
The nearest airport is Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER), which is approximately 56 kilometres from Eberswalde. The train offers a direct and fast transfer option: from BER Airport, trains run directly to Eberswalde Hauptbahnhof, with a journey time of about 1 hour and 5 minutes. Ticket prices are usually between 15 and 23 euros. Alternatively, various taxi and private transfer services are available from BER to take you comfortably to the embarkation point.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and bear in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The following also applies during the trip: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
