Port information & tips for Dresden

Dresden, also affectionately known as Florence on the Elbe, is a cultural jewel in eastern Germany and enchants visitors with its magnificent Baroque architecture. The berths on the picturesque banks of the Elbe offer a direct view of the world-famous city skyline and exude a very special charm thanks to their immediate proximity to the historic buildings. Architectural masterpieces such as the Frauenkirche, the Zwinger, and the Semperoper are within direct reach and can easily be explored on foot. River cruise ships dock at the central Terrassenufer, located below the Brühl's Terrace. From this prime location, travelers can reach the heart of the Old Town within a few minutes' walk, guaranteeing a relaxed yet impressive city experience in the Saxon state capital.

Dresden, as a picturesque starting point for Elbe cruises, is easily accessible from the DACH region thanks to its central location and excellent transport links. The embarkation points for river cruises are mostly located in the city center, for example along the Terrassenufer or near the Carolasee, and are well signposted.

Car

You can reach the Dresden city area directly via the A4 (east-west axis) and A17 (coming from Prague) motorways. Within the city, well-developed roads lead to the piers. Various multi-storey car parks and underground garages are available in the city center for long-term parking. There are also special Park & Ride options on the outskirts of the city with connections to public transport. Some hotels in the vicinity also offer parking options for cruise guests.

Train

Dresden Hauptbahnhof is an important hub in the German long-distance rail network with regular ICE and IC connections from many major cities in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. From the main railway station, you can easily reach the central piers at the Terrassenufer or Carolasee by taxi in about 10 to 15 minutes. Alternatively, you can use the tram lines that take you directly into the city center.

Airplane

Dresden Airport (DRS) is located around 9 kilometers north of the city center and is optimally connected. Thanks to the S-Bahn line S2, you can reach Dresden Hauptbahnhof directly in about 20 minutes. Taxis are also available and will take you to the embarkation points in about 20 to 25 minutes. For guests from further away, arriving the day before is recommended in order to start the river cruise relaxed and enjoy the beauty of Dresden beforehand.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and bear in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the journey: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
