Bingen am Rhein marks the glamorous start of the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley and enchants visitors with a unique blend of wine culture and historical romance. The city is picturesquely situated at the confluence of the Nahe and Rhine rivers and impresses with its lively Kulturufer as well as the wide view of the opposite vineyards of the Rheingau. Outstanding sights include the historic Mäuseturm on a Rhine island, the majestic Burg Klopp, and the Museum am Strom, all of which are easily accessible. River cruise ships dock directly at the central berths of the Kulturufer Bingen, from where guests can reach the historic city center and the inviting shopping streets within a few minutes' walk thanks to the prime location.
Bingen am Rhein is a charming gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley and a popular starting point for river cruises. The harbor area along the Rheinkai and the Hindenburganlage is centrally located and easy to reach thanks to excellent connections.
Car
Thanks to the A60 (from Frankfurt/Saarbrücken) and A61 (from Cologne/Basel) motorways, Bingen is excellently connected to the German road network. From the A60, take the Bingen-Ost exit, while from the A61, the Bingen-Mitte exit offers a direct route into the center. Various parking options are available in Bingen for the duration of your cruise, including paid parking lots in Hafenstraße, Hindenburganlage, and Museumsstraße. You will also find free parking spaces at the Kulturufer Bingen, near the ship docks, behind the Historisches Museum am Strom.
Train
Arriving by train is comfortable, with Bingen (Rhein) Stadt station being the preferred choice. This is located only about a 5-minute walk from the river cruise ship docks. Bingen Hauptbahnhof is also an option but requires about a 20-minute walk to the Rheinkai. From the Stadt station, you enjoy quick and direct access to your ship.
Airplane
The nearest international airport is Frankfurt Airport (FRA), located approximately 45 to 65 kilometers from Bingen. The travel time from the airport to Bingen is between 50 and 70 minutes, depending on traffic and the type of transfer. There are good train connections from Frankfurt Airport to Bingen, which take about 48 minutes to reach the Stadt station. Alternatively, private transfer services offer a convenient and direct ride to the port. For long-haul flights, an overnight stay in advance is recommended to start your river cruise relaxed.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
