Bad Schandau is a charming spa town in the heart of Saxon Switzerland and is considered the ideal gateway to the majestic Elbe Sandstone Mountains. River cruise ships dock at the central pier on the Elbe promenade, which is located right by the town center and, thanks to short distances, allows convenient access to all sights as well as the cozy cafés of this idyllic town.

Car
Getting to Bad Schandau is convenient via the A17 motorway from the direction of Dresden or Prague and the B172 federal road. Public parking is available in the city area, with the Parkster app allowing for flexible, minute-by-minute payment. It is recommended to use the designated parking lots, as capacities near the national park are limited.
Train
Bad Schandau National Park Station is an important transport hub and serves as an international Eurocity stop with direct connections from Berlin, Leipzig, and Prague, among others. From Dresden, you can also reach the station directly every 30 minutes via the S1 S-Bahn line. From the station, which is located on the right bank of the Elbe, a ferry (F5) takes you to the city center at the Elbkai, where the ship pier is located, in about five minutes. The ferry runs every half hour.
Airplane
The nearest airport is Dresden Airport (DRS), approximately 35.5 kilometers from Bad Schandau. From Dresden Airport, you can reach Dresden Main Station by S-Bahn and from there take the train (Eurocity or S1 S-Bahn) to Bad Schandau National Park Station. The total travel time, including the transfer, is approximately 1 hour and 14 minutes.
