Bad Essen is a picturesque spa town in the Osnabrücker Land and a charming stopover along the Mittellandkanal. The historic village impresses with its idyllic flair, characterized by lovingly restored half-timbered houses and a relaxed atmosphere in the countryside. Visitors can explore the historic Kirchplatz as well as the modern Sole-Arena in the Kurpark, while also admiring the nearby Schloss Ippenburg with its magnificent gardens. River cruise ships dock directly at the centrally located passenger pier on the Mittellandkanal. From this mooring point, travelers can easily reach the lively town center with its cozy cafés and small shops in just a few minutes on foot, making Bad Essen an ideal location for relaxing shore excursions.

Bad Essen, a charming brine spa town in Lower Saxony, also serves as an attractive river cruise port thanks to its location on the Mittellandkanal. The Marina Bad Essen forms the center of the port area and is excellently connected for guests from the DACH region.

Car

Bad Essen is easily accessible thanks to good highway connections. You can reach your destination directly via the A1 highway (Hansalinie) – coming from the direction of Bremen/Oldenburg or Münster – via the Bramsche exit towards Minden/Bad Essen. Alternatively, the A30 highway leads from Hannover via the A2 to the Bad Oeynhausen exit and then via the A30 to the Gesmold exit to Bad Essen. Numerous public parking spaces are available in the town center and near the marina, including the former post office parking lot, parking areas at the town hall and the spa gardens, as well as the "Am Freibad" underground garage, which can be used free of charge at all times.

Train

For arrival by train, Bohmte station is the closest option, about 7 kilometers from Bad Essen. It is located on the Osnabrück/Bremen railway line. From Bohmte, you can easily reach Bad Essen by taxi or bus. Osnabrück Hauptbahnhof also serves as an important ICE hub, from which there are regular bus connections to Bad Essen.

Airplane

The nearest international airport is Münster Osnabrück (FMO), located approximately 49 kilometers from Bad Essen. From there, onward travel by bus is the fastest transfer option to Bad Essen. Bremen Airport (BRE) at around 87 kilometers or Hannover Airport (HAJ) at about 93 kilometers also offer options for your arrival.
