Port information & tips for Fowey
Fowey is an enchanting jewel on the coast of Cornwall and is considered one of the most picturesque cruise ports in southwest England. The idyllic small town impresses with its location on a deep estuary, where historic architecture meets a lively maritime atmosphere and winding, flower-lined alleys. Highlights in the immediate vicinity include the historic St. Catherine’s Castle, the picturesque Readymoney Cove, and the Fowey Aquarium located directly at the harbor basin. As ships lie at anchor in the protected Fowey Harbour, passengers reach the central Albert Quay comfortably by tender boat. This landing stage is located right in the heart of the town, allowing guests to immediately explore the charming boutiques, galleries, and traditional pubs thanks to the short distances.
Fowey is a picturesque tender port on the south coast of Cornwall, where cruise ships anchor in the estuary and passengers are conveniently brought by tender boats directly to Town Quay or Albert Quay in the heart of the town. Travel from the DACH region is seamless thanks to good transport links.
Car
For travel by car from the DACH region, the route leads via the M5 to Exeter, and from there continues via the A30 or A38/A390 into Cornwall. Further on, use the A390 towards St Austell and then follow the signs to Fowey via the B3269 or A3082. Please note that driving into the narrow, steep town center of Fowey is not recommended. Instead, use the Main Car Park (Hanson Drive) above the town, which offers 269 parking spaces and provides a shuttle service to the center (Easter to the end of October). Another option is the Caffa Mill Car Park at the Bodinnick Ferry, which allows for a level walk into the town center. Early booking of parking spaces is recommended, especially during high season.
Train
The nearest train stations to Fowey are Par, approximately 5 miles (approx. 10 minutes drive) away, and Bodmin Parkway, which is reachable in about 25 minutes by car and offers direct train connections to London Paddington. From these stations, you can comfortably continue your journey: the Go Cornwall Bus (Line 24) runs hourly from Par to Hanson Drive (Fowey Main Car Park); the journey takes around 17 minutes and costs about £2-3. Alternatively, a taxi service is available at Par station, which will take you to Fowey in about 7 minutes.
Airplane
The nearest airport is Cornwall Airport Newquay (NQY), around 28 to 31 kilometers (approx. 35-50 minutes drive) from Fowey. For international guests from the DACH region, a flight to London (LHR/LGW), Exeter (EXT), or Bristol (BRS) is recommended, followed by onward travel by rental car or train. Taxis and private transfer services are available from Newquay Airport, where online booking can offer savings of up to 40%. Due to the longer journey from Central Europe, staying at a pre-cruise hotel locally may be advisable for a relaxed start to your cruise.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
