Port information & tips for Melnik
Mělník is a charming historic royal city in the Czech Republic, picturesquely perched on a cliff right at the confluence of the Elbe and Vltava. The city delights visitors with its romantic flair, a long tradition of viticulture, and architecture ranging from Gothic to Baroque. Absolute highlights include the magnificent Schloss Mělník, the St. Peter and Paul collegiate church with its fascinating ossuary, and the region's extensive wine cellars. River cruise ships use the central Přístaviště Mělník landing stage on the banks of the Elbe. Thanks to the prime location below the old town, guests can easily reach the historic center and the castle grounds via a short, approximately ten-minute walk, which also offers beautiful views of the surrounding river landscape.
Melnik is a charming river port in Czechia and an important starting point for river cruises on the Elbe and Vltava. Thanks to its location near Prague, the city is well-connected and easy to reach for travelers from the DACH region.
Car
Melnik is well-connected to the Czech road network. From Prague, you can reach Melnik via the D8/E55 heading north. The journey from Prague takes about 40 minutes. Special long-term parking options directly on the riverbank for cruise passengers are limited, so it is recommended to check the parking offers of the respective cruise lines or use public parking lots in the city. Alternatively, you can park in Prague and continue your journey by public transport.
Train
The nearest major railway station is Prague Main Station (Praha hlavní nádraží), which is easily accessible from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland with international train connections. Regular regional train connections run from Prague to Melnik. The journey by train from Prague to Melnik takes about 30 to 45 minutes. From Melnik station, you can reach the riverbank, where the river cruise ship docks are located, by local taxi or a short walk.
Airplane
The nearest international airport is Václav Havel Airport Prague (PRG), located about 50 kilometers south of Melnik. Many German, Austrian, and Swiss cities offer direct flights to Prague. From Prague Airport, you can reach Melnik comfortably by a pre-booked shuttle service, taxi, or public transport. The journey takes about 45 to 60 minutes depending on traffic. Due to international travel, we recommend staying overnight in a pre-cruise hotel in Prague for late arrivals or early departures to start or end your cruise in a relaxed manner.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the journey: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
