Hainburg an der Donau is the medieval jewel on the Austrian Danube and impresses with its strategic location between Vienna and Bratislava. The charming town welcomes visitors with an impressive backdrop of one of the best-preserved fortifications in Europe and the untouched nature of the Donau-Auen National Park. Cultural highlights include the accessible town walls with the magnificent Wiener Tor as well as the historic Schlossberg, which offers a spectacular panoramic view over the Danube Valley. River cruise ships dock directly at the Hainburg shipping pier, located right in front of the striking Kulturfabrik. Thanks to the central location, guests can reach the historic town center in just a few minutes on foot, allowing for a relaxed and eventful shore excursion at the same time.
Hainburg an der Donau, a charming medieval town, welcomes river cruise passengers at its centrally located ship pier. This is situated directly on the right bank of the Danube, not far from the historic town center and the Kulturfabrik.
Car
Arriving by car is convenient via the B9 federal highway. Please note the important restriction for vehicles higher than 2.5 meters, as they are not allowed to pass through the historic Wiener Tor in the town center. Free parking options are available at the Donauparkplatz near the pier, among other places. For short-term parking, the town center offers paid zones with an initial half-hour of free parking, followed by tiered rates.
Train
Hainburg an der Donau is excellently connected to the rail network, particularly via the passenger station located directly on the Danube. This is part of the Vienna S-Bahn line S7, which provides direct connections from Vienna, including Vienna International Airport (VIE). The travel time from the airport is only around 37 minutes. From the station, you can reach the picturesque town center and the ship pier in just a few minutes on foot or comfortably by bus.
Airplane
The nearest international airport is Vienna International Airport (VIE), located about 28 kilometers away. A fast transfer option is provided by the direct S-Bahn connection from the airport to the Hainburg passenger station. In addition, numerous taxi and private transfer services are available, completing the journey to the port in about 30 to 35 minutes, with prices starting from approximately 45 Euros. Bratislava Airport (BTS) is even closer, at around 19 kilometers.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly, and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
