Port information & tips for Grein

Grein is known as the "Pearl of the Strudengau" and enchants visitors as a picturesque jewel directly on the Austrian Danube. The small town impresses with its historical charm, magnificent facades, and an idyllic location amidst a deep green hilly landscape. Cultural highlights include the grand Schloss Greinburg with its striking arcade courtyard and the Historisches Stadttheater Grein, which is considered the oldest civic city theater in Austria. River cruise ships dock directly at the Grein landing stage on the Donaulände. Thanks to this central location, guests can easily reach the historic town square and the most important sights in just a few minutes on foot, allowing for a first-class shore excursion full of history and atmosphere.

The idyllic town of Grein on the Danube welcomes you with its centrally located ship pier, which is only a few minutes' walk from the historic town center. Thanks to good connections, the port is easily accessible from the DACH region.

Car

The journey to Grein is convenient via the A1 motorway to the Amstetten-West exit, from where you switch to the B3 federal road towards Grein. Ample parking is available in the town itself. For coaches, there are also free bus parking spaces directly at pontoons 3 and 40 of the ship pier. However, please note that some parking spaces in the town area may have a maximum parking duration of 90 minutes.

Train

The nearest railway station is "Grein Bad Kreuzen," which is located on the Donauuferbahn between Linz and Sarmingstein and was upgraded for barrier-free access in 2011. From there, you can reach the ship pier in a few minutes on foot. Alternatively, there is a bus connection (Line 380) from Amstetten station to the Grein Schiffstation bus station. Information on timetables is easily available via the ÖBB information service.

Airplane

For international guests, Vienna Airport (VIE) is an excellent choice, as it is approximately 127 kilometers from Grein and often offers direct flights from the DACH region. From there, you can reach Grein by train and bus (Line 380) in about 2 hours and 39 minutes. The closer Linz Airport (LNZ) is about 49 kilometers away and allows for a journey by public transport in around 2 hours and 7 minutes. Private transfers from Vienna are possible in approximately 1 hour and 42 minutes.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the journey: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times may change at short notice.
