Port information & tips for Charlotte Amalie (St. Thomas)

Charlotte Amalie is the glamorous capital of the U.S. Virgin Islands and is considered one of the most charming destinations in the entire Caribbean. The picturesque bay impresses with its azure waters, green hills, and a Danish heritage that lends the city a unique historical flair. Highlights in the immediate vicinity include the venerable Fort Christian, the famous 99 Steps, and the Skyride to Paradise Point with its breathtaking panorama. Cruise ships dock at the West Indian Company Dock in Havensight or at the Crown Bay Center. Both terminals allow for easy access to the city center with its first-class duty-free shops and winding, history-steeped alleys, thanks to short taxi rides or a stroll along the waterfront promenade.

Charlotte Amalie on St. Thomas features two modern docking facilities, the West Indian Company Dock (WICO) in Havensight and the Crown Bay Center, both of which are excellently integrated into the local infrastructure. Thanks to the central location and short distances, you can reach the ships quickly and easily from the nearby island airport or surrounding hotels.

Airplane

Travel from the DACH region is via Cyril E. King Airport (STT), which is mostly served through US hubs such as Miami (MIA), Atlanta (ATL), or New York (JFK). The airport is located only about 5 kilometers from the Crown Bay Terminal and around 8 kilometers from the WICO dock, allowing for a very short transfer time after landing.

Transfer & Taxi

From the airport, you can easily reach the terminals using licensed shared taxis, with officially set fares that allow for transparent planning. Depending on traffic, the journey takes about 15 to 20 minutes via Veterans Drive, which also offers a direct view of the Caribbean Sea and the harbor bay.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the long flight duration and the time difference, we recommend arriving at least one day before embarkation to start the cruise relaxed. Around Charlotte Amalie as well as near Frenchtown, you will find numerous high-quality hotels, which also form an ideal starting point for exploring the historic old town before departure.
