Returning to the ship

Deshaies is a picturesque port of call on the northwest coast of Basse-Terre, Guadeloupe. Cruise ships anchor in the bay, and passengers are conveniently transported to the charming village pier by tender boats. It does not serve as an embarkation port; travel to this Caribbean island paradise is usually by plane via Guadeloupe - Pôle Caraïbes International Airport (PTP) near Pointe-à-Pitre.

Airplane

For guests from the DACH region, travel to Guadeloupe is primarily planned by plane via Guadeloupe - Pôle Caraïbes International Airport (PTP) near Pointe-à-Pitre. Non-stop flights from Frankfurt/M. to PTP are offered by Condor, for example, with a flight time of approximately 9 hours and 45 minutes. Alternatively, Air France, Air Caraïbes, and Corsair offer direct flights from Paris, with convenient connecting flights from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. PTP Airport is the most important hub for your trip to Guadeloupe.

Transfer and Rental Car

Various transfer options exist from Pointe-à-Pitre Airport (PTP) to Deshaies, which is located about 40 to 49 kilometers away. A taxi ride takes approximately 40 minutes and costs between 75 and 85 euros on average. Numerous private shuttle providers also offer fixed prices for transfers to your accommodation in Deshaies. For individual exploration of the island, a rental car is recommended, as the public bus network on Guadeloupe is often limited for tourists. Well-maintained roads, including the N1 and N11, allow for a comfortable drive across the island.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

An overnight stay in a pre-cruise hotel can make the start of your Caribbean journey more relaxing, especially after a long-haul flight. Although Deshaies is not an embarkation port, you can benefit from a pre-cruise stay in Pointe-à-Pitre, the capital and location of the international airport, if your cruise starts from there. Hotels near Deshaies or other charming locations also offer a relaxed stay before or after your cruise on the island of Guadeloupe, allowing you to enjoy the local atmosphere and the nature of Basse-Terre in peace.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually about one hour before the scheduled departure.

The same applies during the journey: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
