Port information & tips for Ville Saguenay (Quebec)
Saguenay is a picturesque jewel in the heart of Québec, where the majestic Saguenay Fjord meets the untouched Canadian wilderness. This charming port welcomes visitors with legendary French-Canadian hospitality and, thanks to its location on deep blue waters, offers breathtaking views of forested hills and dramatic rock formations. Cultural highlights such as the interactive Musée du Fjord and the famous historical play "La Fabuleuse Histoire d’un Royaume" are located in the immediate vicinity and convey vivid regional history. Cruise ships dock at the modern Quai d’escale de Bagotville in the La Baie district, from where passengers can easily reach the cozy boutiques of the city center and the inviting waterfront promenade with its authentic cafés on foot in just a few steps.
The cruise port of Saguenay in the La Baie district, at the end of the fjord of the same name, impresses with its modern Pavillon des Croisières and a warm atmosphere. Travel from Europe typically takes place via the international hubs of Quebec City or Montreal and leads through the impressive landscapes of Eastern Canada.
Airplane
The regional Saguenay-Bagotville Airport (YBG) is located in the immediate vicinity and is only about 15 minutes by car from the cruise terminal. International travelers from the DACH region mostly use Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB), approximately 210 kilometers away, or Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL), which is about five hours away by car and offers direct connections to Frankfurt, Munich, or Zurich.
Auto & Transfer
Arrival by rental car from Quebec City is via the well-developed Route 175, which leads directly through the Réserve faunique des Laurentides nature reserve. Comfortable parking facilities are available at the terminal in La Baie for the duration of the cruise; additionally, specialized transport companies and cruise lines offer regular shuttle services from the surrounding major cities and airports.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the time difference and the distance to the major airports, an overnight stay before embarkation directly in Saguenay or in Quebec City is recommended. Many guests take the opportunity to stay in one of the hotels in the La Baie or Chicoutimi districts to enjoy the spectacular nature of the fjord in peace before setting sail.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the journey: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
