Port information & tips for Tadoussac
Tadoussac is a picturesque gem in the province of Québec and is considered one of the world's most spectacular destinations for whale watching at the confluence of the Saguenay Fjord and the Saint Lawrence River. The idyllic atmosphere of Canada's oldest village captivates with maritime romance and untouched nature. Visitors can experience fascinating insights at the Centre d’interprétation des mammifères marins, admire the iconic Hotel Tadoussac with its striking red roof, and visit the historical Petite Chapelle, the oldest wooden church in North America. Cruise ships use the centrally located Quai de Tadoussac, from which travelers can easily explore all the sights on foot within a few minutes' walk thanks to its immediate proximity to the village center and experience the maritime magic of the region up close.
Tadoussac, a picturesque village at the confluence of the Saguenay Fjord and the Saint Lawrence River in Québec, is a popular port of call for cruise ships and known for its extraordinary whale-watching opportunities. Since Tadoussac is primarily a tender port, guests go ashore by tender boat, which requires a relaxed arrival. Given the long journey from the DACH region, a pre-cruise overnight stay is recommended to start your cruise experience in a relaxed manner.
Airplane & Transfer
For international guests from the DACH region, traveling by plane is the most common option. The nearest regional airport is Saguenay (YBG), approximately 97 kilometers away. From there, you can reach Tadoussac by taxi in around 1 hour and 51 minutes. The larger Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB) is around 338 road kilometers away and generally offers more direct connections from Europe. The drive from YQB to Tadoussac takes about 4 hours and 22 minutes by car. Bus connections (Intercar) with a transfer are available from Québec City to Tadoussac and take approximately 4 to 6 hours. A rental car from Québec City is an excellent choice due to the flexibility and the scenic route.
Car
Tadoussac is accessible via Route 138, which opens up the picturesque north shore of the Saint Lawrence River. Please note that for the journey, you will use a free, approximately 10-minute ferry ride from Baie-Sainte-Catherine across the Saguenay Fjord. This ferry connection is an integral part of Route 138. For parking in Tadoussac, paid parking spaces are available near the Marine Mammal Interpretation Centre (108, rue de la Cale Sèche) as well as on Bord-de-l'Eau Street and at the quay. There are no direct parking spaces at the tender quay.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long international flights and the further journey to Tadoussac, an overnight stay prior to your cruise is highly recommended. Hotels in Tadoussac and the surrounding area allow you to arrive relaxed and enjoy the unique nature and whale watching at your leisure. This way, you avoid any time pressure on embarkation day and start your adventure well-rested. There are numerous hotels and motels in Tadoussac suitable for an overnight stay.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that with your travel documents, you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time – depending on the cruise line and destination area – is usually about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the journey: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always observe the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
