Charlottetown is the charming capital of Prince Edward Island and is considered the birthplace of the Canadian Confederation. The city welcomes visitors with its Victorian architecture, striking red brick facades, and warm maritime hospitality. Nearby highlights include the Confederation Centre of the Arts, the magnificent St. Dunstan’s Basilica, and the lively waterfront district of Peake’s Wharf with its small boutiques. Cruise ships dock at the Historic Charlottetown Seaport, located right on the edge of the center. Thanks to this central location, guests can comfortably reach the historic Victoria Row and the most important sights within a few minutes' walk, making the stay both relaxed and eventful.
Charlottetown is the maritime heart of Prince Edward Island and welcomes its guests at the centrally located Charlottetown Seaport, which is only a short walk from the historic old town. Thanks to the modern infrastructure and good connections to the Canadian mainland, traveling to the island is extremely straightforward.
Airplane
Charlottetown Airport (YYG) is located only about 8 kilometers north of the terminal and is regularly served via the international hubs of Toronto (YYZ) and Montreal (YUL). From there, you can easily reach the port by taxi in about 15 minutes; additionally, direct flight connections from major Canadian metropolises enable comfortable travel from Europe with only one stopover.
Auto & Ferry
Travelers can reach the island directly from New Brunswick via the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1) and the impressive, 12.9-kilometer-long Confederation Bridge, reaching the terminal after about an hour's drive. Alternatively, the Northumberland Ferry offers a scenic crossing from Nova Scotia to Wood Islands, from where you can reach the port in approximately 45 minutes and find practical parking options in city-center parking garages such as the Pownal Parkade.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the longer flight duration and time difference from the DACH region, arriving a day early is highly recommended to enjoy the charming atmosphere of the island's capital in a relaxed manner. Many first-class hotels in the city center are within direct walking distance of the pier, making embarkation the next morning particularly pleasant and flexible.
