Cruise port Newhaven (Edinburgh)

Newhaven (Edinburgh) serves as an important port of call for cruise ships in Scotland and is exceptionally accessible thanks to its excellent connections to the public transport network and proximity to the airport. For larger ships, Newhaven usually functions as a tender port, bringing passengers ashore by shuttle boat. From there, convenient transfers are available to the nearby Ocean Terminal in Leith or directly to the historic city centre of Edinburgh.

Airplane

Edinburgh Airport (EDI) is the closest international airport and is located approximately 11 to 16 kilometers from the port of Newhaven. After landing, a direct tram connection from the airport to the Newhaven stop takes you comfortably to the harbor area in around 54 minutes. For travelers from the DACH region with longer flight times, staying overnight in one of Edinburgh's numerous hotels before the day of embarkation is recommended for a relaxed start to the cruise.

Train & Tram

The central hub for rail travelers is Edinburgh Waverley Station. From the main station, you can easily reach Newhaven by tram. The tram line runs directly from the St Andrew Square stop, located near the station, to the Newhaven stop in about 25 minutes. The tram stop in Newhaven is also only about a five-minute walk from the harbor and is well-signposted. Alternatively, taxis are available at Waverley Station to take you to the port in a short time.

Car & Parking

Arrival by car is via well-maintained roads, such as the A901, which leads directly to Newhaven. Direct parking options at the Newhaven tender port are limited; however, around 1,600 covered parking spaces are available at the nearby Ocean Terminal in Leith, which is reachable from the tender pier via shuttle bus. It is important to note that "Newhaven" also refers to a ferry port in Southern England – therefore, always look for "Newhaven (Edinburgh)" to ensure you head to the correct destination.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that your travel documents usually provide you with a fixed time slot for check-in, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
