Brăila is a historic Danube port in eastern Romania, captivating visitors with its rich cultural heritage and elegant 19th-century architecture. The city welcomes travelers with a relaxed atmosphere and a picturesque waterfront promenade, which invites leisurely strolls thanks to its shaded avenues. Cultural highlights include the historic Traian Square with its magnificent buildings, the artistic Kinetic Fountain, and the Public Garden, which features the distinctive Water Tower. Cruise ships dock directly at the Faleza Dunării at the central Terminalul de Pasageri Brăila, making the vibrant city center and its most important sights easily accessible within just a few minutes' walk.
Braila is an important Danube cruise port in southeastern Romania, located on the left bank of the Danube. The port features an "Old Port" sector with several berths, which are also used for passenger ships. Due to the distance, traveling from the DACH region often requires careful planning, which is why a pre-cruise overnight stay can be recommended.
Car
Braila is well connected to the national road network and is located only about one kilometer from the nearest highway. For those traveling from the DACH region, the most important routes lead through Hungary and Serbia or Bulgaria. Please note that vignettes are required for using highways in Romania as well as for transit through Hungary and Austria. Special park-and-cruise offers directly at the port are not widely available in Braila, but free parking spaces are usually available in the city center. For a relaxed arrival, a hotel with its own parking lot is recommended.
Train
Braila railway station (Gara CFR) is a relevant point of arrival for train travelers. From Bucharest, you can reach Braila by train in about 3 hours and 3 minutes. From the station to the cruise terminal or the captain's ship bridge ("Căpitănia Portului Brăila"), which is located near the port, you can easily get there via local bus lines (e.g., lines 10, 16, 17, 33, 4, BR 39) or by taxi.
Airplane
The nearest international airport is Henri Coandă International Airport (OTP) in Bucharest, around 168.4 kilometers from Braila. Good transfer options are available from there: the journey by bus takes about 3 hours 30 minutes, while private shuttle services or taxis cover the distance in about 2 hours 49 minutes to 3 hours 15 minutes. Due to the longer journey from Central Europe and the transfer time to the port, arriving by plane on the day before the cruise is recommended in order to embark without stress.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly, and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
