Airplane
For guests from the DACH region, traveling by plane is the most common option. The nearest international airport is Sofia (SOF) in Bulgaria, approximately 167 kilometers away. An alternative is Henri Coandă Airport (OTP) in Bucharest, Romania, which is also easily accessible at around 133 kilometers away. From both airports, a private transfer by taxi or rental car to Nikopol is recommended, with the journey taking about 2 hours 25 minutes from Sofia and about 3 hours 30 minutes from Bucharest. Due to the international travel involved, an overnight stay at a pre-cruise hotel in Sofia or Bucharest on the day before embarkation is recommended to start your cruise in a relaxed manner.
Car
Arriving with your own vehicle takes you via the well-developed Bulgarian road network. Nikopol is accessible via the II-34 highway, which branches off from the I-3 main road, an important north-south connection toward Sofia. The II-34 also connects to the II-52 along the Danube to the east. A drive from Sofia to Nikopol is approximately 196 kilometers and takes about 2 hours and 25 minutes. Specific long-term parking spaces directly at the river port for cruise guests are not prominently signposted in Nikopol; however, individual arrangements for parking can usually be made with local hotels or guesthouses.
Train
Arrival by train is less direct, as Nikopol itself does not have a major long-distance railway station. Travelers from the DACH region can use a train connection to Pleven, which is considered an important regional center. From Pleven, there are bus connections to Nikopol, with the bus journey from Pleven taking about 1 hour. Alternatively, a taxi from Pleven to the cruise terminal in Nikopol can be used. A train journey from Sofia to Pleven takes about 3 hours 5 minutes to 3 hours 17 minutes depending on the connection, followed by the onward transfer to Nikopol.
Check-in & Embarkation
