Port information & tips for Helsingborg
Helsingborg is one of Sweden's oldest and most charming cities, impressing visitors with its prime location at the narrowest point of the Öresund, directly opposite Denmark. The city combines Nordic elegance with a vibrant maritime atmosphere and offers a high-quality travel experience thanks to its grand architecture and inviting waterfront promenades. Outstanding sights include the medieval Kärnan fortress tower with its panoramic views, the magnificent Sofiero Palace with its award-winning gardens, and the modern Dunkers kulturhus art and cultural center. Cruise ships usually dock at the modern pier in Sydhamnen (South Harbor), located about two kilometers from the city center. Thanks to short shuttle connections or a pleasant walk, the historic old town with its striking Town Hall and diverse shopping opportunities is easily accessible in just a few minutes.
Helsingborg is an important Swedish cruise port, strategically located at the narrowest point of the Öresund and easily accessible from the DACH region thanks to its central location and excellent transport links. The cruise terminals are situated very close to the city center, meaning guests often have only short distances to reach the heart of the city.
Car
The Swedish motorways E4 and E6 lead directly to Helsingborg and offer a comfortable journey from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. In particular, the E4 guides you conveniently towards the port. Short-term parking is available at the Öresundslinjen terminal, which is free of charge between 7:00 and 19:00 when using the AIMO app. For longer parking durations, it is recommended to use the public long-term parking lots in the city center, which are often designed for up to seven days. Some hotels along Malmöleden also offer parking options for cruise guests.
Train
Helsingborg Centralstation (Helsingborg C) is the central hub for train travelers and is located directly at the port. From here, you can reach the cruise terminals comfortably on foot in a few minutes via Hamntorget and Järnvägsgatan. The West Coast Line (Västkustbanan) provides a direct rail connection, linking Helsingborg with major Swedish cities like Malmö and the wider Scandinavian and European rail network.
Airplane
Copenhagen Airport (CPH) is the nearest major international airport and is located approximately 46.5 km (as the crow flies) or about 97 km by road from Helsingborg. It is excellently connected via direct train services from the airport to Helsingborg Central Station, taking about 1 hour 36 minutes. Alternatively, Malmö Airport (MMX) is available about 70 km away, with bus and train connections (via Malmö C) taking approximately 1 hour 29 minutes. For a relaxed embarkation, especially after longer flights, arriving the day before with an overnight stay in Helsingborg can be advantageous.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time – depending on the cruise line and destination – is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
