Port information & tips for Hamina

Hamina is a charming jewel on the Finnish southeast coast and impresses with its star-shaped city layout, which is rare worldwide. The historic fortress city welcomes visitors with an idyllic atmosphere of Nordic serenity, wooden houses in the old town, and maritime tradition directly on the Gulf of Finland. Outstanding sights include the impressive Hamina Bastion, the magnificent Rathaus in the center of the circle, as well as the historic Flaggenturm. Cruise ships dock at the quay in the port of Hillo, from which the city center can be reached quickly in only about five kilometers thanks to short distances and convenient transfer options, offering plenty of space for cultural discoveries.

Hamina, a charming port on the Finnish south coast, is easily accessible for cruise guests from the DACH region and offers a relaxed start to the sea voyage. The port is compact and the layout is clear, making embarkation pleasant.

Airplane

The nearest major airport is Helsinki-Vantaa Airport (HEL), approximately 150 kilometers west of Hamina. From there, there are good bus connections to Hamina. The bus journey takes about 2 to 2.5 hours; alternatively, a taxi or rental car can be used. Direct flights to Helsinki-Vantaa are offered from many cities in the DACH region, which is why arriving the day before is recommended for longer flight connections to ensure a relaxed arrival in Hamina.

Train

The nearest train station to Hamina is located in Kouvola, a major railway junction in Finland. There are regular train connections from Helsinki to Kouvola, taking about 1.5 to 2 hours. From Kouvola, you can easily reach Hamina by bus in about 30-40 minutes. Another option is to travel to Kotka station and take a local bus or taxi to Hamina from there.

Car

Hamina is well-connected to the Finnish road network. The E18 European route passes directly by Hamina, allowing for a convenient journey from the direction of Helsinki or even from the Russian border. Within Hamina, the port is well-signposted. There are parking facilities near the port for both short-term and long-term parkers, ensuring secure accommodation for the vehicle during the cruise. Prior reservation is recommended to secure a parking space.
