Nha Trang is considered the glamorous "Riviera of Vietnam" and boasts one of the world's most beautiful bays on the South China Sea. The lively coastal city delights with a harmonious mix of modern boulevards, fine sandy beaches, and deeply rooted history. Cultural highlights in the immediate vicinity include the impressive Po Nagar Cham Towers and the gleaming white Long Son Pagoda with its monumental Buddha statue. Cruise ships usually dock at Cau Da Port, which is located about five kilometers south of the center and, thanks to short travel times, provides excellent connections to the Tran Phu beach promenade and the city's diverse shopping opportunities.
Nha Trang is a popular port of call for cruise ships in Vietnam and can be reached by international guests from the DACH region primarily via airplane and subsequent transfers. The port features a well-organized berth that ensures efficient handling of embarkation and shore excursions.
Airplane
The nearest airport is Cam Ranh International Airport (CXR), located about 30 to 40 kilometers south of Nha Trang. There are no direct flights from German, Austrian, and Swiss airports, but there are numerous connections with one or two layovers, for example via Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok, or Doha. The flight time is about 12 to 18 hours, depending on the connection.
Transfer & Shuttle
From Cam Ranh International Airport (CXR), you can easily reach the port of Nha Trang by taxi. The ride takes about 45 to 60 minutes, depending on traffic conditions. Many hotels in Nha Trang also offer private airport transfers that can be booked in advance. Shuttle buses are also available and provide a budget-friendly alternative to a taxi.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long journey and time difference, an overnight stay in a hotel in Nha Trang before embarkation is recommended. This allows for a relaxed arrival and acclimatization. Many hotels in the city provide an excellent starting point to get to know the local culture and are often helpful in organizing transfers to the cruise terminal.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan accordingly sufficient time for the journey to the port and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
