The nearest and most relevant international airport for arrival is Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) in Ho Chi Minh City, the largest airport in southern Vietnam. Although there are no direct flights from Germany, Austria, or Switzerland, there are excellent connections with only one stopover via major hubs in Asia or the Middle East. SGN Airport is located approximately 6 to 8 kilometers from the city center of Ho Chi Minh City.
Arrival in the Mekong Delta & Ferry
From Ho Chi Minh City, the onward journey to the Mekong Delta and the landing stages for Cu Lao Gieng typically takes place overland. My Tho is about 70 kilometers away and can be reached by car or bus in 1.5 to 2 hours. Can Tho, a larger city in the heart of the delta, is approximately 165 to 170 kilometers away; the journey takes about 3.5 to 4.5 hours by bus, and around 2.5 to 3 hours by private car. From towns like Cho Moi in An Giang province or other locations in the delta, travelers then take a ferry or a small boat to get directly to Cu Lao Gieng. River cruises usually include these transfers directly from Ho Chi Minh City or Can Tho.
